After several years as a superintendent, College Education and continuing education seminars, I have
developed sound management practices and impeccable practices that offer outstanding playing conditions on
the golf course. I have written several programs to cover all aspects of turf management. A brief job description
is listed below:

Supervise the maintenance of all golf areas including Greens, Tees, Fairways, Rough and Clubhouse
Grounds. These duties include but not are limited to:


1.        Oversee and maintain turf and plant material.
•        Setting height of cut
•        Selecting turf varieties
•        Proper soil management and soil testing
•        Selecting and applying appropriate fertilizers
•        Adequate irrigation scheduling
•        Diagnosing turf problems accurately and in a timely fashion
•        Applying pesticides, fungicides, wetting agents and herbicides when  needed

2.        Supervision of crew ranging from 12 to 27 people and different shifts of three or more. These duties
    include but are not limited to:
•        Day crew shift: Monday – Friday 5:30am –2:30pm
•        Night Crew shift: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday 3pm–11:30pm
•        Weekend Crew shift: Saturday and Sunday 5:30am- 10:30am
•        Assigning daily tasks and special projects
•        Training crew to perform all daily tasks and special projects to be performed by the maintenance staff

3.        Oversee Assistant and Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendents:
•        Manage assistants in supervisor skills
•        Help with direction of staff
•        Direction in tasks of course needs

4.        Oversee Equipment Manager:
•        Must have working knowledge of all golf course equipment
•        Be able to show how to make repairs in a timely manner
•        Scheduling of routine maintenance on all golf course equipment to coincide with the use of the equipment
•        Oversee all routine repairs of all golf course equipment

5.        Oversee horticultural manger:
•        Proper selection of plant varieties
•        Proper design and maintenance of landscape beds on golf course, club house, tennis facility and parking
  lot

6.        Oversee students during their internships:
•        Teaching job skills of everyday maintenance on the golf course
•        Promote attention to detail of entire golf course property
•        Meet university requirements sent along with student
•        Observe that the student fulfills his/her goals written the first week of internship
•        Help prepare the student for future positions in the turfgrass industry

11.        Repair and maintenance of irrigation system:

•        Monitor snow pack and checking greens though out winter

22.        Prepare year around golf course for winter in cooler conditions:
•        Cultural practice to prepare plant for lower soil temps
